What a tour operator's website needs before it can take bookings

A good-looking site is not the same as a bookable one. Here is what we check before we connect a booking form for a safari, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar operator.

Most tour operators we talk to already have a website. What they usually do not have is a website that turns a visitor into a booking without a phone call. The difference is rarely design — it is a handful of practical things the site must be able to do.

Itineraries with real detail

Visitors comparing operators want the day-by-day plan, what is included, what is not, and the price range. A page that says "Contact us for details" sends them to the next tab. We build itineraries as structured pages your team can edit — each with its own dates, group size and starting price — so the booking form can reference them directly.

A booking form that asks the right questions

Name, dates, number of travellers, preferred itinerary and a note. That is enough to quote. Longer forms lose people on mobile, which is where most of your visitors are. Every submission should land in your inbox and in a dashboard where staff can mark it as quoted, confirmed or lost.

Reviews you can point to

Operators on TripAdvisor, SafariBookings or Viator already have reviews; the website should show them rather than ask visitors to go looking. Where reviews live only in WhatsApp screenshots, ask clients for permission to publish a short quote with their first name and country.

A dashboard for your own team

Prices change, vehicles change, a lodge closes for the season. If updating the site means emailing a developer, the site goes stale. Every operator site we build ships with an admin area for itineraries, fleet, FAQs and bookings — the same approach we used for Kilimanjaro Tours and Explore Zanzibar By Car.

The basics that make it findable

Page titles that name the destination and the service, a sitemap, fast images and a Google Business Profile. None of this is glamorous, but it is the difference between being found for "Zanzibar car hire" and not.

If your current site is missing more than one of these, it is usually faster to rebuild than to patch. Tell us about your operation and we will suggest which route makes sense.
